When it comes to money, everyone has a story these days. Sadly, many stories I’ve heard are filled with hardship, misfortune, loss, sadness, anger, and resentment. Don’t get me wrong—I understand these stories are real, and I feel deep compassion for those going through tough times.
But hey, as a Money Coach, I know firsthand the dangers of getting stuck in your story and how it can hold you back. I get it, many of you have been hit hard by the financial crisis, but I want you to know
this: your financial circumstances don’t define who you are. So, please, don’t let them become a part of your identity.
You must process your story—what happened to you—quickly so it doesn’t take up permanent residence in your being. Find a way to forgive and let go of what’s happened, whether losing your home, job, or investments. Let it be in the past, so you can move forward and create the life you truly want.
If we fail to release the past, we carry it everywhere we go. Over time, we become so attached to our story and the past that we miss out on the present moment, and the future becomes nothing more than a repetitive show of yesterday’s events.
That’s what we call an “unconscious self-fulfilling prophecy,” believe me, you can’t win at life when you’re stuck in that vicious cycle. The next phase of your life is waiting for you, but you can only claim it when you’re willing to let go of the past.
People often ask me to share my story with them, and my response is always the same. I tell them that my story is no longer who I am—it’s just a version of who I was. But if you ask me about my life today and my vision for the future, now that’s a story I’m excited to share!
What happened to you is real, but it doesn’t define you unless you allow it to by holding onto it. Resist the temptation of becoming a victim in the tragedy of your story. Instead, I challenge you to become victorious as the hero or heroine in your own inspired drama (or comedy if that’s more your style!). You’ve got what it takes—start writing a new chapter today!
